Sweet Contest

Today several boxes of my newest book, Sweet Misfortune, showed up at my house. While I appreciate my publisher's generosity, I honestly don't know what to do with them all. The only thing I can think of is...give them away!

So here's the deal: the main character in this book, Sophie Jones, has a bit of a sweet tooth. To be entered to win a signed copy, post a comment to this blog in which you identify your favorite candy or other sweet treat. It's that easy. Five people will be selected at random. The contest closes at midnight on June 9th, just before the book is officially available in stores on June 10th. Check back on the 10th to see if you've won.

For the record, my new favorite 'sweet' is Chocolate Soup. My wife just discovered the recipe, and it's to die for.

Good luck!

Oh, and after you've entered the contest, feel free to check out Sophie Jones's blog.

Hmmm... well since I have been doing this no-carb gig for almost 4 weeks now, candy and sweets sound delish right about now! I love LOVE love ice cream. Plain and simple. I don't like my ice cream filled with a bunch of fluff... aka Candy, caramel, toffee, etc. A good ol' fashioned bowl of vanilla with chocolate syrup on top is just right!

Ms. McDonnell said...

The answer to both dessert and low carb is sugar free dark chocolate covered almonds--but Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia rocks the house when I want to enjoy a real sweet treat.

Unknown said...

I love all sweets, so it's hard to pick just one! However, one of my favorite combos is warm chocolate lava cake paired with caramel or coffe ice cream!! Yummm!

Kelly(M&M) said...

This is evil because I, too, am on a no sugar gig. Well, if I were to choose a sweet it would be a milkshake! Especially the really thick ones with fresh fruit...yummy!! I really want one of the books. Pick me. :-) Congrats Kevin!

If I have to narrow it, then it must be caramel cinnamon gelato! A real treat as we don't have a gelato place where I live (good thing). I'd love to win as I have read and reviewed your books on my blog before. Looks like another winner, Kevin. Thanks for the chance!

I love sweets. I should be avoiding sugar as well, but I love chocolate, caramel and nuts. So my favorite is snickers.

Oh! Chocolate, chocolate and chocolate would be my top three. Currently my 'must have' is Dove or Lindt Milk Chocolate. At Christmas time I love it when people gift me those big o' boxes of chocolate that you can buy at Sam's Club, etc. then I sample ALL of the chocolate flavors and mixes.

Certain candies are my weakness. Bring a bag of jelly beans or caramel creams or twizzlers into the house, and the entire bag is gone in about 5 minutes! No wonder I can't lose weight!

NancyLee said...

Cinnamon Monkey Bread is the one for me...its warm and gooey. The whole house smells as its cooking. Pulling it apart with my fingers and popping a cinnamon roll with so much more and of course coffee..what a way to end or start the day. Make it every holiday. If I didn't the family would have something to say!

There is something about M & M 's that is hard to resist. While on a missionary assignment in Africa - I sent a request back to the states to have some peanut M & M 's sent over to our base. The package arrived about a month after it was sent and the packing slip mentioned several items including the M & M 's. When we opened the package, everything was there except the candy. Apparently the customs people like them too. The value of the candy was minimal compared to the other items in the package, but who can put a price on a sweet like M & M 's.

Molly said...

Hmmm..that is a tough one since I love a lot of sweets with my kids...if I had to pick just one though, it would be a nice sweet blueberry muffin with some sweet hot espresso poured over top for a delicious "muffin shot"! Followed closely by a nice, sweet watermelon milkshake from Cook Out restaurant! And then of course I can't forget my absolute favorite candy bar: TWIX!!!

Thanks for this chance!

Hi!

Enjoyed the original post; now I'm really curious about your books! Enjoyed Sophia's blog. Just signed up to follow your blog. Not a bad start to my day!

Now I get to tell you that brownies are my downfall. I bake two 9x13 mixes in one tray, and they are decadent, even without icing. (Not adding icing is my compromise, as I bake them at least once a week for us and numerous others who drop in -- probably because they know we have brownies!)

Have a great day!

I would have to say I love Chocolate Champagne Truffles! They are to die for. Thanks for having this giveaway.

If the saying: "you are what you eat" is true, then I must be very sweet. lol
I love my homemade caramels and english toffee. I adore Dove and Lindt chocolates. My favorite ice cream flavor is Mud Pie with big chunks of chocoate in it.

My quick sweet treat Frozen M&M's with a Diet Coke. (got to save those few calories on the coke). When you pop them in your mouth and drink the coke, they snap open and the chocolate blends in with the coke....Instant gratification! Yum

Like so many, I'm trying to not even keep sweets around in the house. We do have a great Mug Cake recipe that followed our daughter to college (can be made easily using a coffee mug and microwave) that if eaten warm and quickly is a wonderful treat for 2 with no leftovers! <3 love it!

My favorite sweet is Ritter's frozen custard. It is the smoothest, creamiest frozen dessert that you can imagine. It is headquartered out of Indianapolis, IN. If you ever see one of these frozen custard shoppes you must try the Carmel Cashew or my very favorite, Vanilla.

I love anything chocolate, but my all time favorite since I was just a child are the "old school" chocolates called "Ice Cubes." We used to buy them at the corner drug store for a nickel a piece and they were considered a special treat. They are now pretty difficult to find and when you do find them they cost about 40 cents (or more) a piece. When I am lucky enough to find them I buy several and hide them away for a special once in a while treat that reminds me of my childhood. Looking forward to Sweet Misfortunes Kevin. I love your books!

Hi Kevin, I am glad things are going well for you. I would have to say my favorite type of candy bar would be the homemade kind, like 7 layer bars, but I do rally like making homemade marshmallows. Rani

My downfall is Tiramisu or Pofittario with Hazelnut cream. If you haven't tried them, you are missing something wonderful.

Bev said...

I've always had a sweet tooth for Reese's peanut butter cups, but dark chocolate fudgey brownies, warm chocolate molten lava cake, and ice cream are right up there! Congrats on another book that I'm sure is going to be a good one!

P.S. I'd love to try your wife's chocolate soup recipe.

I love anything with Chocolate and Peanut Butter together YUM! Or coconut. I love Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Almond Joy.

Thanks for entering me into this giveaway.

I believe my favorite treat is one that I stay away from... Mississippi Mud... you take a brownie recipe, layer marshmellow creme and then add a thick fudge frosting. A 1x1 square is to die for! I also am so addicted to marshmellow peeps, and enjoy them stale...But, I too must stay away from so much intense sugar... Love your books and am looking forward to a great summer read..

Can't just choose one. Lemon ice cream, Butter Pecan ice cream, moon cakes, and mochi are my big favorites.

Sesami candy. Oh dear, I am afraid that I am a sweet addict!

This is the best contest ever! Thinking of a favorite sweet and your book at the same time just makes my day. Chocolate pie is my very favorite, with coconut coming in at a close second. In fact, I never ate a pie I didn't like! Thanks for this great contest!

Sweets are my weakness, especially anything chocolate!! I can't wait to meet Sophie and read about her Sweet Misfortune. Thank you so much for offering this wonderful contest.

robynl said...

just call me a kid as we have a candycupboard at our house; I have cut way down on sweets because of having breast cancer and trying to lose weight and besides it is healthier but I do occasionally eat them. I love everything. Right now it is the Sweet and Salty Almond bars; to die for and not totally too sweet.

Would love to get a book of yours.

If I could, I would live in a candy store! Dylan's Candy Bar to be exact! I have an affection for confections! Cake, cookies, pie...anytime, anywhere. But when I think of a real sweet treat, I'd have to narrow it down to ice cream and a cookie, much like an It's-It. Warm soft, chewy cookies and cold ice cream are a perfect blend-together-melt-in-your-mouth sweet treat!

Can't wait to read your book!!

I used to have my kids hold my hands when we went by a candy shoppe at the nall so I wouldn't go inside. I will eat any kind of candy. However, I find myself purchasing M&M's more often than candy bars. My favorite candy bar is an Almond Joy

Our family makes a luscious White Chocolate Cheesecake with a Dark Chocolate Ganache and serve it in a puddle of pureed raspberries.

For a quick on the run sweet I'll grab an Almond Joy any day!

Well I have to say that my absolute favorite sweet treat is my hommade peanut butter blossom cookies warm out of teh oven with a cold glass of milk to dunk them in. Peanut butter blossom cookies are peanut butter cookies rolled in sugar then baked, when they are almost done you take them out of the oven and put a hershey kiss in the middle and then bake again for 2 minutes. They are to die for especially when the hershey kiss in the middle is still warm and gooey. They are super yummy!!!

Chocolate Soup sounds interesting. You should post the recipe.

How do you narrow things down for a favorite choice?! My two favorite "sweet" ingredients are chocolate and peanut butter. I feel justified if the peanut butter is in there because it is a protien right? Give me a treat w/those two ingredients and I am happy! --Lennae

White chocolate covered craisins (dried cranberries) + cashew clusters are outta hand. The best ones in the universe can be found at the candy store on Main St, Chatham, Cape Cod, MA.

This energy booster is not only sweetsie, but also provides vitamins, protein, fruit, lecithin, etc.

My favorite sweet treat? There are sssoooo many. One I still need to get the recipe for is Lindsey's homemade fudge. She brought some to one of our book group meetings. You should have her make some next time you come to the Fingerlakes to visit. Tell her Kathy recommended it.
